In order to further improve the lines of communication and to respond to the concerns between the National VA Council and you our members, I have established a National VA Council Briefing. This NVAC Briefing will bring you the latest news and developments within DVA and provide you with the current status of issues this Council is currently addressing. I believe that this NVAC Briefing will greatly enhance the way in which we communicate and the way in which we share new information, keeping you better informed.

In This Briefing: Labor Day 2006

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It’s Labor Day again.  First celebrated in New York in 1882, Labor Day is a celebration that began as a parade to honor the working class, and to spend time with families and friends.   This historic holiday remembers the huge contributions that the workers have made to the strength, prosperity and well being of our nation.
The spirit of the American labor movement of the past relied on the strength and common spirit of comradeship, enthusiasm, and devotion of the trade and labor organizations.   Today it is celebrated a little differently than years before.  Some see it as an end to the summer or the start of fall and football season
Samuel Gempers, Founder and President of the American Federation of Labor, would be proud of our Veteran Affairs’ workforce who are committed to caring for our veterans.
I would like to wish everyone a safe holiday week-end and let’s take a moment to remember all veterans who are away from their family and friends.   Enjoy your time off and get ready to come back to work and show America why “We are Simply the Best!
