In
order to further improve the lines of communication and to respond to the
concerns between the National VA Council and you our members, I have
established a National VA Council Briefing. This NVAC Briefing will bring you
the latest news and developments within DVA and provide you with the current
status of issues this Council is currently addressing. I believe that this
NVAC Briefing will greatly enhance the way in which we communicate and the way
in which we share new information, keeping you better informed.

This
weekend we will be celebrating the 4th of July…our Nation’s
birthday! The meaning behind Independence Day came about as the product
of the courageous efforts and strong dedication of those willing to defy
England and seek Independence.
We,
as a nation share a common goal that this nation was founded upon and that is
that all people are created equal and the right to engage in life, liberty and
the pursuit of happiness. These principles of freedom continue to
inspire and guide our country today. Let us not forget, that freedom was
earned for us, by the many men and women (past and present) who have
sacrificed and demonstrated courage and faithfulness to our country. It
is a continuing pledge of faith to preserve the United States.
In
1777, on the first anniversary of America’s independence, thirteen gunshots
were fired, once in the morning and again as evening fell, in Bristol, Rhode
Island. While Philadelphia celebrated in a way a modern American would
find quite familiar; official dinner, toasts, 13-gun salutes, speeches,
parades music, prayers and fireworks. Ships were decorated with red,
white and blue bunting. It has always been a festive holiday!
Today,
we continue to celebrate this very important holiday with fireworks, parades
and family gatherings. But today, be sure to take the time to thank your
fellow veteran for his/her service.
On
behalf of the National VA Council, I wish to thank you for your continued
service to these men and women, whether it is in the hospitals, VBA’s, or
cemeteries. Your dedication, support and continued care for our
nation’s veterans is very much appreciated. I would like to wish you
and yours, a safe and memorable 4th of July!
