In order to further improve the lines of communication and to respond to the concerns between the National VA Council and you our members, I have established a National VA Council Briefing. This NVAC Briefing will bring you the latest news and developments within DVA and provide you with the current status of issues this Council is currently addressing. I believe that this NVAC Briefing will greatly enhance the way in which we communicate and the way in which we share new information, keeping you better informed.

Today's children are taught the basic history of the events surrounding Independence Day, but the fine details of this monumental occasion in American history somehow falls through the cracks.
Our forefathers signed into existence the Declaration of Independence in 1776, over 230 years ago. With this bold step into independence, we as a nation dedicated ourselves to the principles of freedom. This declaration has separated us from many other countries and as Americans, we have had to endure many obstacles over the past two centuries in our commitment to our principles.
Currently, we are involved in a fight for human rights and freedom overseas. Our dedicated men and women in the armed forces continue on their quest for peace. These brave and unselfish soldiers will keep on serving their country; some will make the ultimate sacrifice defending freedom against terrorist and opposing forces around the world.
In 1941, Congress declared July 4 a legal Federal holiday. Today, across the nation, this holiday is celebrated with fireworks, picnics, and parades, while the "Star Spangled Banner" plays in the background. As you go to your celebrations, please take a moment to think of those who cannot be home to enjoy the festivities and wish them well and safe passage until they can be reunited with their family and friends.
Best Wishes for a safe and enjoyable 4th of July!
