In order to further improve the lines of communication and to respond to the concerns between the National VA Council and you our members, I have established a National VA Council Briefing. This NVAC Briefing will bring you the latest news and developments within DVA and provide you with the current status of issues this Council is currently addressing. I believe that this NVAC Briefing will greatly enhance the way in which we communicate and the way in which we share new information, keeping you better informed.

In This Briefing: Memorial Day Message

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
As the days grow longer and warmer, people’s minds turn towards summer and outdoor activities.   For many people, Memorial Day is the unofficial first day of summer, marked by trips to the pool and barbeques in the back yard.
Yet for those of us who daily care for veterans, Memorial Day holds a much different meaning.  We know that it is to pay homage to those who have served, and those who have made the ultimate sacrifice to protect our liberties, at home and abroad.
From the hills of Virginia, to the lowlands of Mississippi, the trenches of World War I and II, the plains of Europe, the frozen landscapes of Korea and the jungles of Vietnam, men and women have fought and died to keep the dream of America alive.  Even now, thousands of miles from home in Iraq and Afghanistan, men and women stand watch over our freedom.
These are Veterans who, in the words of President John Kennedy, have shown us that they will “pay any price, bear any burden, and meet any hardship.”  We see the cost of this every day, whether we work in a Medical Center, Clinic, Regional Office, Cemetery or a staff office.
So, amid the good cheer that comes with the beginning of summer, lets reflect on this Memorial Day what those who have gone before us have done.  Let us rededicate ourselves on this day to service those who have served us –
On behalf of the National VA Council, we wish you a safe and enjoyable Memorial Day!
