(May 25, 2006)

In order to further improve the lines of communication and to respond to the concerns between the National VA Council and you our members, I have established a National VA Council Briefing. This NVAC Briefing will bring you the latest news and developments within DVA and provide you with the current status of issues this Council is currently addressing. I believe that this NVAC Briefing will greatly enhance the way in which we communicate and the way in which we share new information, keeping you better informed.

In This Briefing: Memorial Day, a day to celebrate, remember, and honor our nations’ veterans 05/25/06

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Once again, Memorial Day is upon us. Another three-day week-end will kick-off this summer’s activities. Let’s be sure to remember why we celebrate this holiday!
Memorial Day is a solemn day to mourn, celebrate, remember, and honor our nations’ veterans for their sacrifices for all mankind and the preservation of our nation.
This holiday is a day to honor Americans who gave their lives for their country and for those who continue to fight for our many freedoms. On this holiday, mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers, and friends will place flowers and flags on the graves in remembrance of the ultimate sacrifices made. Military parades and memorials will be dedicated on this day while others will observe this day with re-enactments of battles past.
As we continue with the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, we know that more American soldiers will also make the ultimate sacrifice for our country. Let us stand strong and continue to show our support for our men and women in uniform and show compassion to the returning veterans from these battles. Find a way to let them know that we will be here for them no matter what.
I ask that you take a few moments during this holiday week-end to honor our veterans. Let us remember the many soldiers that are carrying out that mission today, and pray for their safe return.
